Tortoli Sardinia is a small country of just over 10,000 inhabitants, capital of the province with the other country's so-called Lanusei Province of Ogliastra.
This province is located in the central area of Sardinia, between the provinces of Nuoro and Cagliari and is washed by the Tyrrhenian Sea.
A small curiosity stems from the fact that with its Aols 23 municipalities and 50 thousand inhabitants, the province dellOgliastra led by Tortoli and Lanusei, is the least populated of Italy.
The name is quite Tortolì discussed by experts of place, but mainly is thought to come from the name of an old door, then crippled by Pisa in Tortohelie.
Geographically its location is very convenient, so it's currently the subject of numerous trade both by land, with the train station, or by sea, with its port, which airline, airport of Arbatax.
Neighboring countries are the towns north of Sunflower and Lotzorai, Bari Sardo south, west and Villagrande Strisaili Ilbono.
The altitude of the town is a few meters above sea level.
The territory around the typical Sardinian Tortolì is very diverse with beautiful beaches, the hinterland and the wild mountain scenery of Gennargentu.
Tortolì has always been defined as a country between the sea and the pond and perhaps the feature that has proved favorable.
The country is also traversed by a small river, the Rio Foddeddu, which flows directly into the sea near the port.
The area near the harbor, from which it takes its name Arbatax, is famous for its red rocks, where it acquired the name a blues festival that takes place in the country every summer.
These rocks are made of diorite porphyry and reddish black emerge from the sea as they were a species of large stacks.
Seems a Dolomite scenery emerged from the sea.
To talk about the beaches detail below but suffice it to say that they are sought after destination for many tourists to the white sand and clear and the clarity of the sea.
Regarding the lakes, they are not present in the country, while the closest is Flumendosa.
The first historical Tortolì (though its foundation dates back to 3000 BC) date back to the Roman Empire's domination by foreign peoples, first the Carthaginians, then the Goths, to pass under Arab rule, and then Spanish. In 1100 he joined around the court of Cagliari and became the county seat of Quirra.
Its recent history is more detailed: in 1807 became the provincial capital until 1859 when it leaves the scepter Lanusei and becomes part of the province of Cagliari.
One of the blackest pages of history of this country is scirtta But in 1869 when he arrives in town smallpox, brought by a prisoner who claimed many victims.
Just continue to make smallpox deaths in 1908, until the arrival of the still worse Spanish flu.
Meanwhile Tortolì changes again and passes under Nuoro province until the year 2005 when in fact becomes the capital dell'Ogliastra with Lanusei.
Another page is written finally in the black World War II when Tortoli, in particular the port of Arbatax, is bombed by 18 aircraft to break the maritime trade of our country. A few years earlier had received the visit of Mussolini.
